It has become customary in some quarters for Friday 13th to be designated “BSE day”- Blame Someone Else day! And it’s an excuse to blame others for all the bad luck and for everything that goes wrong (a number of years ago, online card companies latched onto it and you can send suitably negative downloadable greetings to people!)
But… Blaming and Complaining is like a virus. It destroys relationships, it destroys careers, it destroys teams and businesses, and it destroys us, our lives.
All successful people begin by taking one fundamental step. That step is to realise, and to believe absolutely, that they are responsible for their own success. They all know that in the end it’s down to them: “If it’s to be, it’s up to me!”
So, instead of making Friday 13th BSE day…
make it TPR day – Take Personal Responsibility Day
… and discover the difference.
Thirteen tips for TPR day… and every day!
- Choose your Attitude:
Be grateful – write down 3 things you are most grateful for at the start of today.
No more blaming and complaining. – government, weather, economy, etc.
Go Happy, Go Lucky. A sunny disposition brightens the ‘cloudiest days’.
The power of a pause. Don’t react. Respond. Create Response-Ability.
2. Know your Purpose. Have a Life-Map…know where you are going.
3. Your Foreground is far more important than your Background.
– Be forward thinking rather than backward shrinking.
4. Make your Changes: Take action when you can; and know when you can’t.
5. Be Enthusiastic and Energetic.
Act it
Say it
Be it
6. Create a Clutter-free environment. Have a clear out.
7. Take Control. Create an Action Plan today. Not a “to do list”, but an action plan based on your priorities and goals. Focus on achieving 3 action goals today.
8. Use visualisations (or, if you know it, my method of Visualis-ACTIONs). Create mental images of positive outcomes for every situation.
9. Be Thankful… Write a personal Thank You letter today.
10. Recognise Opportunities and take them. There are no coincidences in life – look for the signposts that present themselves to you.
11. Do something kind today, just for fun.
12. Write a journal. YOU are responsible for your life story. And you are the author of your life story. Write down at least one “highlight” at the end of each day… start TODAY.
13. Be a good luck seeker! Decide that on this Friday 13th, YOU are going to have an amazing day of opportunities, connections and good luck!
