The traditional international cry for help… Mayday, Mayday, Mayday! (It originates from the French for ‘help me’ = “m’aider”)
A call that is deadly serious.
A call that will create, in anyone who hears, an urge to help … at all costs.
It’s the most human of urges… born of empathy. “There, but for the grace of God, go I.”
And so, we answer.
But, what of those who don’t call for help? Who don’t shout “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday!”
There are many, who suffer in silence, who muddle through, who struggle on.
Sometimes those struggles can be huge, worthy of a ‘mayday!’ call.
And sometimes, they can simply be surmountable problems or challenges that, once shared, can be resolved easily.
Today, on May Day (which, of course, has nothing to do with Maydays!), as you go about your business, look out for the ‘maydays’ that haven’t been broadcast.
Be helpful, kind, human. That’s what sets us apart.
