Like me, you will be aware that one of the most important resources in modern business is Energy.

The scientific definition of “Energy” is “the capacity for doing work”. And as the world of business speeds up and the demands become ever greater, we also feel the demands on our energy increase. There is always pressure to adapt, to be strong, to be flexible, to be mentally agile, to be thinking, to be acting. And this is all happening quicker than ever before.

The laws of physics tell us that in order to double speed, we need to invest four times as much energy.

And it does feel like the speed in which business is conducted is getting faster and faster…

So, where is the extra energy going to come from?

a. Make more energy

Generate more personal energy. This requires:
– Regular exercise
– Less junk feed from TV, radio etc.
– The right amount of sleep
– Drink plenty of water
– Eat the right “Fuel”
– Breathe properly
– Create energy from the use of energy… when we act energetic, we generate even more energy!
– Energetic mental attitude (excitement and enthusiasm create physical energy)
– Having exciting goals to work towards

 b. Waste less energy

Once we have gained energy, it’s important not to let it leak or get wasted on fruitless or low pay-off activity.
– Abandon any behaviours that don’t contribute much to the achievement of the results you want.
– Re-design activities where energy is being burned up inefficiently.
– Save energy by avoiding negative people and “drainers”.
– Save energy by avoiding negative or damaging thought.
– Make sure you are not wasting energy on resisting change.
– Make sure you are not wasting energy on trying to change things of little importance, little relevance, or to little effect.

c. Make the energy work better

This means that when you do decide to invest your energy, you need to do so with greater focus. If you direct your energy narrowly, you will achieve greater force, higher velocity, and better results.
